cell phone signal boosters

Have you been experiencing many dropped calls lately? Are you living or working in a cell phone signal dead zone? If you have answered yes to these questions then you definitely need cell phone signal boosters.

Cell phone signal boosters are devices that are used to increase and improve your service providers signal strength. They are also known to reduce noise and to improve the sound quality of phone calls and even increase your battery life. Cell phone signal boosters extend the range of any cell phone signal. There are two ways in which cell phone signal boosters can be used; by connecting the signal booster directly to your phone or by using a repeater (or an amplifier) which requires no physical connection to your phone.

Weak cell phone signals are caused by various reasons. Building size affects signal strength by attenuating the signal and interference by objects that reflect the signal inside the building is also to blame. This is common in large buildings such as factories and is the same in the basements of big buildings. In these situations Cell phone signal boosters with external amplifiers can be mounted at various locations on the building to improve signal reception.

Some materials used in building construction also attenuate the signal. Old buildings which have lead in their roofing materials block signal reception. Buildings with very thick concrete walls and floors, fiberglass insulated roofs and metallic window screens are known to block radio signals. Buildings with such materials therefore require cell phone signal boosters mounted on them to amplify the cell phone signals and thus allow users to roam freely without worrying about dropped calls.

Cell phone signal dead zones can also be caused by signals taking different paths and bouncing off buildings. These signals then are transmitted as destructive signals and require directional cell phone signal antennas to align them and transmit them properly. This is to prevent them from affecting the signal frequency ranges used by cell phones.

Companies dealing with cell phone signal boosters are bound by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules and guidelines as much as it gives the mandate to allow data roaming by carriers. The FCCs role is to ensure that signal boosters do not interfere with carrier networks and their goal is to facilitate the deployment and development of high quality signal boosters that do not interfere with transmission of carrier networks. This is considered necessary considering that quite recently some carrier networks recently argued that certain cell phone signal boosters interfere with their towers thus leading to dropped calls complaints by their subscribers.

Android phones

Of the thirteen Verizon Android phones the The HTC ThunderBolt is currently their premier phone. Other popular Verizon Androids are the Motorola's Droid 2 and the HTC Droid Incredible 2. However, these two phones don't sport the 4G connectivity, while the ThunderBolt does.

From a physical point of view the ThunderBolt is fairly heavy (6.4 ounces) and large (4.8 x 2.6 x 0.5 inches HWD). For some this is not an issue and gives the phone a solid premier feel, but if you like a phone that fits lightly in your pocket this one might not be for you. The display screen is an impressive 4.3 Inches (800 x 480 pixels), giving you crisp viewing even at obscure angles. There is a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera for video calling and a powerful 8 megapixel rear camera with dual-LED flash. The real aspect that puts this phone ahead of the Droid 2 and Droid Incredible 2 is the connectivity speed - the ThunderBolt is now running on Verizon's 4G LTE network. Verizon's rapid 4G network is new and already covers a large number of the major metropolitan areas.

For almost all the smartphones you are required to select the $30 data plan, giving you unlimited data, and there is no extra cost if you are running on 4G versus 3G. A neat option is to get WiFi hotspot, this $20 add-on allows you to connect up to eight devices, such as your laptop, to your phone's internet so you always have internet on the go. The flip side to having such quick browsing speeds is that your battery probably will not last you more than two and half hours of 4G use. This has raised a lot of questions as to the functionality of the phone. However, on 3G you can expect to get around eight hours of talk time. Which by all accounts is very reasonable. The reality is you are likely to have trouble getting through the day without recharging. For a high pace corporate individual this might not be the right phone for you, but if you want to dazzle your friends with the fastest internet speeds then this one is for you.

You are likely to find the phone quick to maneuver through apps and day-to-day use with the 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, and Android 2.2 (Froyo) operating system. Unfortunately, the Thunderbolt does not ship with the latest Android version (Gingerbread, 2.3). However, it is expected to have an official upgrade sometime this Summer, with unofficial version online for users that have rooted their handset. Note, Android has blocked users with rooted devices from using the movie rental options. The phone ships with 2.5 MB of built in memory and a 32 SDmicro card - more than enough room to store all your pictures and videos.

To sum things up, the Thunderbolt is Verizon's premier phone. It is a better option for you even if you do not have access to the 4G network than the Droid X, merely because the interface from HTC (Sence) has better functionality than Motorola's MotoBlur. If you are toying with the iPhone, don't. It does not have the 4G connectivity, and nor will the iPhone 5, soon to be called iPhone 4S. The Droid 2 might be an option to consider if you prefer having a physical keyboard (much improved keyboard from the original Droid). If not, stick with the Thunderbolt and hope that the next generation smartphone's have better battery efficiencies.

Eye Catching Design On The Nokia N9 And The iPhone 4

The Apple iPhone 4 is undoubtedly the most well known mobile phone available. The device goes beyond the realms of a traditional mobile phone and in some peoples eyes is more like an object of desire rather than a functional everyday tool. Not many other phones can match this appeal but Nokia look set to come very close with the forthcoming release of their gorgeous looking N9 handset which sports the new Meego operating system that looks set to directly compete with Apples iOS4.

There is no question that both the iPhone 4 and the Nokia N9 are two of the most desirable handsets available. The Apple has always scored highly in the style department and the addition of a new white model to the range has further enhanced the phones appeal. This latest version of the handsets differs from previous models in that it comprises of two toughened sheets of glass that make up the front and rear panels. The advantage of using this method is that colour variations such as the white model now look considerably different rather than just being a different colour back panel. A neat metallic strip is the filling in this sandwich of glass and runs all the way around the sides of the phone. The N9 is even more minimalist than the Apple as it offers no physical buttons on the front at all and this has enabled the Nokia developers to take the screen to the very edges of the phones body which makes it perhaps the most striking design currently available. The edges are very clean on the phone and the only visible curved element is the screen which offers a nice contrast to the rawness of the phone's body. The Nokia N9 stands out in this area but one wonders if we will say the same in a few months time when inevitable imitation models start to hit the market.

The Nokia N9 offers a higher potential storage capacity than the iPhone thanks to the two variants that the model is available in. Both handsets off basic models with a large capacity 16GB of internal storage. When you take a look at the premium models however Nokia doubles what the 32GB Apple can offer by releasing a 64GB version of the phone. Neither of these model offer external card support but one could argue that with such substantial internal storage additional capacity is not necessary. In terms of operational memory both models offer good amounts of RAM but the 512MB available on the iPhone 4 is eclipsed once again by the N9 which gives a massive 1GB. An area where the Apple does really excel however is with its screen and despite the excellence of the 3.9 inch display on the N9 it still has some way to go before it can match up to the excellent standards set by the Retina Display on the iPhone 4.

Introducing The Upcoming Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

Google's Android is now the most popular smartphone platform, according to The Nielsen Company. This mobile operating system is one step ahead of Apple's iOS and Research In Motion's BlackBerry OS, and it is constantly evolving. Recently, Google released the tablet-only Android 3.0, 3.1, and 3.2 Honeycomb as well as the 2.3 Gingerbread for smartphones, and they're already planning to introduce a new version of this software later this year. On May 10, 2011, the company announced that the Android 4.0, which is nicknamed Ice Cream Sandwich, is going to the market in Q4 2011. It looks like Christmas this year is going to be a super sweet one for tech enthusiasts all over the world!

Hot news about this latest version of the Android mobile platform has been spreading like wildfire all over the internet since its announcement in May. Google said that they wanted an operating system that runs everywhere, and hence the Android 4.0 was developed. The Ice Cream Sandwich is a combination of the Gingerbread and the Honeycomb, and you can expect to see it on phones, tablets, as well as computers. As we all know, the Gingerbread improves the soft keyboard and copy/paste features, refines the user interface, and also supports the Near Field Communication technology. On the other hand, the Honeycomb supports multicore processors and graphics hardware acceleration, and introduces new user interface features. The first tablet equipped with the 3.0 Honeycomb is the Motorola Xoom tab which was released in February 2011.

Tech enthusiasts can expect to see the Android 4.0 OS on the upcoming Google Nexus 3 smartphone. The China-based telecommunications company Huawei also claimed that their latest handset, the Glory, will be upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich once it is available. Besides the Android 4.0, the Google Nexus 3 is also predicted to feature a 720p HD screen, 1080p HD video capture capability, 1GB of RAM, a 5 MP back camera, and ultra slim body. This smartphone is speculated to come with a dual-core 1.2GHz OMAP, 1.5GHz OMAP, Qualcomm Snapdragon, or a quad-core Kal-El processor.

Now the question is, what can the Android Ice Cream Sandwich do? This operating system enables user to connect other devices such as USB mouse or Xbox controller for Android games thanks to the Android Open Accessory program. It will also have multitasking tool and system manager so that you won't run out of memory on your mobile gadget. Last but not least, the facial recognition capability will keep your device secure.

A Comparison of Apple iPhone 4 and Nokia N8 Cell Phones

A Comparison between two popular smartphones:

This comparison only covers the main aspects of both smartphones and does not cover detailed analysis.

So what is a smartphone?

Advanced functionality such as mobile phone, personal digital assistant (PDA), PC like functionality such as edit photos, browse internet, etc, as well as the ability to take still photos and record HD videos. All these functions are packed into a single super gadget called a smartphone.

Design:

Both cell phones are masterpieces of technology and innovation and it is really hard to decide which one is better on basis of size comparison, height width comparison and screen comparison.

The iPhone is the world's thinnest smartphone making it slimmer than N8. Both phones have quite similar dimensions and weight but difference is in the thickness. Nokia phone has a 0.51 inches (12.9mm) excluding area of the camera whereas iPhone is only 0.37 inches (9.3mm). Stainless Steel and ultra durable glass is used in Apple phone against aluminum in Nokia.

Both mobile phones comes with a 3.5" screen size, N8 has a resolution: 16:9 nHD (640 x 360 pixels) AMOLED whereas iPhone has a Retina Display (LCD with IPS technology) making it 640x960 pixels of resolution.

Price Difference:

How much are you willing to spend to buy your new cell phone?

Smartphones does not come cheap, it is possible that some customers change their mind and end up buying a cheaper phone from another company, or maybe go for a budget laptop instead with similar price or less.

Purchasing power of customer is a primary factor in phone selection. These super gadgets are expensive because of having so many features. The Nokia cell phone is at least 20-25% cheaper in price than iPhone 4 (unlocked). Apple products are usually expensive than its competitors but still their products stays in great demand.

Color Variants:

When it comes to choose a gadget for everyday use, color makes a big difference in making a decision.

Nokia smartphone comes in five colors the silver white, dark grey, orange, blue and green. Making it more interesting for the customers to choose according to their favorite color.

On the other hand iPhone4 smartphone comes in two colors the white and the black. So not many choice here either go for a completely dark color or a bright color. So Nokia phone offers more color choices to its customers than Apple phone. Nokia cell phone in silver white, dark grey, orange, blue and green colors whereas Apple phone in white and black color.

Camera Quality:

One big attraction towards smartphones is their ability to take photos and record high quality videos

The Apple cell phone has a 5 MP camera that can take gorgeous photos and 720p HD video recording of 30 frames per second. Whereas Nokia smartphone comes with a great 12 MP camera and is able to capture stunning photos and can record 720p HD video. So N8 gets a plus against iPhone4 in photos and video because of having a 12 mega pixel camera.

Software

iPhone comes with Apple's iOS4 operating system which allows multitasking on a multi-touch screen, making it easy to switch between several applications. It comes with cool applications such as FaceTime to make video calls with its two-way camera, engaging video games and high-definition video editing tools etc. Plus there are above 300,000 applications and games available to download from App Store.

Symbian^3 operating system comes with Nokia mobile that allows custom home screens, social networking and cool looking widgets. Plus it has photos and video editing softwares. Also there are few applications available to download from OVI Store, also you can play HD video.

Skype on iPhone OS4

The tantalizing combination of full-throttled Skype on the iPhone moved a giant leap forward Thursday with Apple’s announcement that the handset’s next operating-system upgrade will support multitasking for third-party apps.

Multitasking is good for all sorts of apps that you’d like to keep “awake” but not to the exclusion of all others, like mail — a core app that already runs in the background. But there are plenty of others that needn’t be immersive and yet must be, like instant messaging, and social media apps like Twitter.

One ramification of OS 4 leapt out at us immediately: Skype’s app could now run in the background, waiting for incoming calls while you do other things.

And it should be possible to continue to use the iPhone app to leverage whatever Skype options you have, like online numbers (real phone numbers, not just your account name) that can be called from any telephone and the ability to call any phone using Skype, not just other Skype users.

Without being able to run in the background Skype’s is largely limited to outgoing calls, unless you make an appointment on some other medium to arrange a Skype call (or just run it all the time). At present Skype is a convenient extra on the iPhone, and a significant tool for making calls — especially during those hours when you’d otherwise be using the minutes on your calling plan — but not something one could ever rely on for day-to-day communication.

That could change dramatically this summer, when OS 4 is available to the public. Maybe even better: The same OS powers the iPod Touch, which has no phone but could become a Skype phone by default. It will also be available for the phoneless iPad in the autumn.

It was really simple to implement — “just a dozen lines of code,” said Skype’s David Ponsford, head of product development, during the iPhone OS 4 press conference in Cupertino, California.

Ultimately though, without being able to use AT&T’s 3G connection, which AT&T told the FCC and Apple was fine six months ago, Skype calls are still limited to Wi-Fi. And that’s a big limitation. On Tuesday, Skype released a new version of its iPhone app that many suspected would add 3G calling (because AT&T approved the idea six months ago and Skype said in February that 3G calling would be added “real soon now”).

The delay is mysterious, and could speak to something deeper at work here. Adding to the intrigue is a post on Skype’s forum by Dragev, who claimed on March 22 that he’d run into “Peter” (likely Parkes, Skype’s blogger and Twitterer in chief) who said Skype has scrapped 3G on the iPhone because it signed an exclusive deal to offer 3G service on Verizon or because AT&T’s network can’t handle it.

“He told me that the deal with Verizon included exclusivity, so Skype is not going to issue an update for the iPhone that will allow it to work over 3G,” claims Dragev, a regular poster on the Skype forum. “Apparently, they had some questions whether the AT&T network would even be able to provide a decent experience, as well, so [Skype iPhone team leader] David Ponsford decided to scrap it. There will be an update supporting push in the fall, however.”

Even without 3G, multitasking makes Skype a powerhouse on Wi-Fi, and while you’re away from that, you can route calls to voicemail or another phone, using the free Google Voice service. The Skype app will accept calls even if you’re using your phone for something else, which makes it a somewhat viable alternative to paying for voice service — 911 calls excepted.

If you only need phone service when you’re around Wi-Fi (or, even better, if you carry your own 4G Wi-Fi with you), an iPod Touch running the Skype app means you don’t have to pay AT&T $100/month or so for wireless service, and you can still make and take calls to and from normal phones.

If you pay for iPhone service, you could downgrade to the cheapest voice plan ($40 for 450 minutes per month), conserving your minutes by switching to Skype when you’re around Wi-Fi, once it accepts incoming calls. Heck, you could even route all your numbers — cellphone, incoming Skype number, home phone, office phone, batphone, etc. — through Google Voice and answer your calls on phone-Skype, computer-Skype, AT&T, your home phone or your office phone, depending on where you are, and whether you have Wi-Fi.

The only missing piece of the puzzle is Skype-over-3G, so if you want to make wireless 3G calls over Skype, you’ll still need to jailbreak your iPhone.

This is heady stuff, but you won’t be able to try Skype’s incoming-calls feature until the summer, when Apple rolls out the iPhone 4 OS to iPhones and iPod Touches. The iPad version is set for a fall release, and the new version of Skype will work with that, too. Now, all the iPad needs is a camera for video Skype calls and that ever-elusive 3G support.
